Permission profiles

A permission profile is the set of permissions granted to a user by an admin. This profile determines what actions the user is permitted to perform in an organization.

By default, three permission profiles are defined for every account in the eSignature product: DS Admin, DS Sender, and DS Viewer (for CLM, these profiles are CLM Admin, CLM User, and CLM Viewer). These permission profiles cannot be modified or deleted, but you can view and copy them as the basis to create other permission profiles.

  • DS Admins have all DS Sender permissions and can additionally send envelopes to bulk lists, share templates, view and manage envelope rights through the API, send on behalf of other users through the API, and create web forms.
  • DS Senders can view and send envelopes, use templates, use signer attachments, and use supplemental documents.
  • DS Viewers can view envelopes.

You can download a CSV file showing the details of each permission for each permission profile in your account through your eSignature Admin Permission profiles page. See Download Permission Profiles Data for details.

In v2.1 of the Admin API, you can assign permission profiles for several products (such as eSignature or CLM) to a user. These permission profiles will apply to the user when they interact with that product.

A user can only be added to one permission profile per product. If you attempt to add a second permission profile for a given product, the first will be overwritten.

You can get the full list of a user’s permission profiles for each account’s products by calling the MultiProductUserManagement: getUserProductPermissionProfiles method.
